PAGB Print Championships

On Saturday 25th October Stokesley PS represented the NCPF, along with Sunderland PS, in the PAGB print championships. At the end of round one Stokesley were in 32nd place out of 36 with a score of 116 from 12 prints. Sunderland's score was 115. The top 9 clubs then competed for the Trophy with the remaining 27 clubs competing for the Plate competition. Our score from 5 prints was 57, as was Sunderlands, and we finished in equal 21st place.

Results - Some good, some not so good

This weekend the judging took place on both the NCPF Championships and the PAGB Cup.

At the Championships we didn't do very well in the PDI competition with a final score of 209 out of a possible 300. Northallerton were the outright winners with a score of 243 with Morpeth in second place. Northallerton CC and Morpeth CC will represent the NCPF at the PAGB PDI Championships in July.

Stokesley fared a lot better in the Print competition with 221 points putting us into 2nd place behind Sunderland who scored 230. So Stokesley PS will be representing the NCPF at the PAGB Print Championships which are held in October. To this end we will be asking for your very best prints at the beginning of next season.

In the GB Cup Stokesley PS did very well in the Nature section coming in 27th equal place (out of 94 competing clubs) with a score of 112 out of a possible 150. Although we entered 20 images only the top 10 marks count in this competition. The winners were Wigan 10 with a score of 129. Our results in the Open competition were not nearly so good where we scored 138 points out of a possible 225. We were in 100th equal place out of 110 competing clubs. 15 images are entered for this competition and the scores all count towards the total. Again Wigan 10 were the winners with 186 points.

PAGB E-News - Judging Special

NYSD Annual Competitions

USA Landscape Photographer of the Year.

Charlie Waite has launched a new international photography competition called USA Landscape Photographer of the Year.

It is designed to give the opportunity for photographers from all over the world to have their talent recognised and rewarded with their images of the rural or urban landscape of the USA.

RHS Photographic Competition closes 1st November

With the closing date for this year's RHS Photographic Competition fast approaching, we're having one last push to remind photographers to get their entries in before Friday 1st November to be in with a chance of winning the coveted title of RHS Photographer of the Year 2013 and the top prize of £1000. The standard of entries for this year is already high, but we're keen to make sure that no budding entrants are left behind, so we very much hope that you will pass this message on to your members.

According to judge and professional garden photographer Clive Nichols,'shooting at dawn in the autumn is the perfect time to take pictures outdoors as flowers and foliage will still be decorated with dew and cobwebs which can make for some striking images.'  Now that we are in the midst of autumn it's the perfect time to get outside and capture some truly spectacular shots.

A Message from the RHS Photographer of the Year Organisers

At this time of year, when many photography clubs and societies are starting their new season after the holidays, we thought you might be interested in inviting your members to enter this year's RHS Photographic Competition, to compete for the prestigious title of RHS Photographer of the Year and a share in the £5,500 prize fund. There is a cash prize of £1000 for the overall winner as well as prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in each of the six categories - plants, gardens, details, seasons, wildlife and people in the garden - with no limit on the number of entries you can submit. Winners and finalists also get a huge amount of exposure with their work featuring heavily in the UK and international press and being exhibited across all RHS Gardens. World-renowned garden photographer Clive Nichols will be chairing the judging panel this year. Clive's work has appeared in hundreds of books as well as in countless magazines, calendars and brochures, and he regularly gives master classes in flower and garden photography for the RHS, the next being on 17th September at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey. All entries into the competition are also considered for the Medici Cards Award, presented to the photographer who submits the image best suited for reproduction as a greetings card. The winner will receive 200 copies of the card which they can then proudly distribute to friends and family.

The RHS is always keen to promote great garden and plant photography,and this competition offers an opportunity for all professional or amateur photographers from anywhere in the world, to showcase their best garden-related images. NCPF Annual Competition Results

The results of the NCPF Annual Competition are now available on the NCPF website at this link.  Congratulations to the following whose images gained awards or were selected for the PAGB entry or the Selectors Choice.  If you would like to know your individual results without following the link and scrolling through 52 pages please let me know.  I have shown some of the award winning pictures.  If yours is missing send me a small jpeg (750 pixels on the longest side) and I will include it.

In the Mono Prints the club came 10th equal out of 31. As previously mentioned Guy Davies was awarded the trophy for the best landscape print.  A highly commended went to Mike Nicholas for 'Making Rice Paper - Thailand'.  'Pigeon Fancier' by Paula Davies and 'Fields and Farm, Palouse' by Guy Davies were selected to represent the NCPF in the PAGB inter-federation print exhibition.  'Junior' by Colin Carter, 'British Museum Panorama' by Rob Louw and 'Making Rice Paper - Thailand' by Mike Nicholas were selected for the Selectors' Choice Portfolio which will tour clubs later this year.

In the Colour Prints the club was 7th equal out of 31.  'One Last Trip' by John L Davies, 'Capillary Thread Moss' by David Purnell and 'The Chase is On' by Colin Carter were awarded Highly Commended.  'Common Milkwood Locust' by Rob Louw, 'Hare's Tale Clover' by David Smith, 'Hollyhocks' by John L Davies and 'Spot of Lunch' by Mike Nicholas were all selected for the Selectors' Choice Portfolio.

In the Projected Digital Images section the club finished 11th = out of 31. 'Mycena No 3' by John L Davies and 'To the Finish' by Mike Nicholas were awarded Highly Commended. 'Love Token' by Mike Nicholas, 'Taking it Easy' by John Hopkins and 'Mycena No 3' by John L Davies were were selected to represent the NCPF in the PAGB inter-federation PDI exhibition. NCPF Annual Competition Results

There was success for two Stokesley PS members in the recent NYSPDA Inter-Club Competition. John L Davies was awarded Best PDI Image for 'Farne Island Puffin' and Paula Davies gained equal 3rd place for her print 'Ashness Autumn'.

NCPF Website Update

The following update has been made to the NCPF web site since the last update message and all can be accessed here.

1.      Competitions/Annual Competitions & 2012 Competitions Gallery
“The Gallery of Trophy Winners” from the 2012 NCPF Annual Competitions has now been uploaded.  I have left the 2011 gallery on-line for the time being, so both can be viewed.
My thanks to all those who assisted in any way towards its completion.  The fully detailed results are not yet available, but are being prepared and, although it may take anything from one to two weeks, please remember that there is an considerable amount of work involved on the part of the current ‘ad hoc’ sub-committee.

In the Federation Challenge Trophy for Monochrome Prints Paula Davies gained 2nd place in the
